Youth Team

The next generation of sailors

Some things remain untouched, proving that with resilience we overcome the biggest obstacles we may find! The GYC Youth Racing Team is doing exactly that and is getting ready to return to competition.

Meanwhile, Anja von Allmen keeps developing her sailing career and is now one of the nominees for Best Hope of Swiss Youth 2021! You can participate with your vote here.

We wish all our athletes fair winds, safe training sessions and a victorious return to sailing at their very best.

The next generation of sailors

Anja von Allmen and Emilie Tschanz among the 37 best and most ambitious Swiss young sailors

The decision was made after the tenth edition of the Talent Scout Camps, where 37 sailors were selected for the Talent Pool 2020 throughout Switzerland. The event at the Ipsach Water Sports Centre, which has now found its permanent place in the swiss sailing team's calendar, offers the most powerful Swiss sailing talents the opportunity to recommend themselves for the Talent Pool program every year. An experienced coaching team tested the athletes for three days. In the end, 37 sailors were added to the pool, among them GYC Sport Member Anja von Allmen and GYC Junior Member Emilie Tschanz.

The next generation was extremely successful in spring too. Gauthier Verhulst (Laser Radial) and Anja Von Allmen (Laser 4.7) won the Europa Cup on Lake Garda in the middle of May.

Gauthier, Anja and Emilie Tschanz succeeded in the Europa Cup in Hoorn, NL a month later. Anja Von Allmen SUI was first among girls and fourth overall, Emilie Tschanz second girl.  Their current projects, participation in the European and W$orld Championship.

Joshua Richner (17) and his sailing partner Max Haenssler (22) have set themselves a high goal in the 49er class. They will train to compete in the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris (sailing competitions in Marseille) for Switzerland. Joshua grew up in the Saanenland and is still here regularly. It quickly became clear that he had found his sailing home in the GYC and became a member of the GYC team with Max. In this way, the two can benefit from the experience and support of the GYC. Joshua and Max finished an excellent 13th place out of 54 teams at the Junior World Championships in Norway this summer. The regatta consisted of a total of 14 races, of which the duo could even win a final race, in which they could also prevail against the flyers from New Zealand, who also won the world title in the end. This proved great potential to achieve another top result at the upcoming Junior European Championships in Portugal in mid-December.
