There is the popular saying “we are what we eat”! With growing health concerns and environmental consciousness, the act of eating became more than a feeding necessity already for a long time.
On Saturday, January 29th, 2022, largely due to a shift in the consumer demand, the GYC hosted a conference exactly about this topic sponsored by Blue Horizon, a company that believes and invests in what is rapidly becoming the future of the food industry. As explained by GYC member Björn Witte, the three billion people increase in the world population over the next 25 years will lead to a scarcity in the food supply that cannot be compensated with more efficiency. The matter becomes even more important when the impact of this situation, at an environmental level and on climate change, come into the equation. At a political level Mr. Witte is of the opinion that one cannot expect a viable solution in the short term. The urge to correct this trend led to a search for alternative and cleaner energies such as electric automobiles that, although boost the awareness for “greener” ways of transportation, are at the same time heavily subject to economical fluxes and lobbies.
